D.I.Y. No Sew Classroom Curtains

Last summer I spent quite a few days reorganizing my classroom.  I had a vision of making my classroom look less cluttered and more homey.  I did a bit of searching around to find something simple and low-cost.  After stumbling upon a few good ideas on Pinterest, I came up with a plan of making no sew curtains.

Step 1: Measure
I first made sure to measure my windows precisely, not only taking the width, but the height of them as well.  I did not know how low I had wanted them to hang down at first, but I knew the length would be close to whatever half of the width of the fabric is.

Step 2: Materials
I made my list of materials needed for the project.

Materials

  • fabric
  • curtain rods
  • curtain hooks
  • fabric tape
Tools

  • tape measure
  • scissors
  • hot iron
  • towel

Step 3: Purchasing the Materials
An hour and a half trip to Walmart is what it took for me to search through fabrics, reevaluate materials needed, and do a bit of research on my phone on how to use certain products.  I wanted to make sure my fabric was neutral enough to match other furniture and would be "in style" for a few years.

Step 4: Final Preparations at Home
After a long trip to the store, I went home to lay everything out and make sure I was not missing anything.

Step 5: Dig in!

I measured the two big pieces, one for each window of my classroom.  Then I laid down a towel under the fabric so I would not burn my rug.

It did not take long for the not-so-sticky fabric tape to melt to the fabric and create a nice crease.

All I needed to do to the piece of fabric was make a crease on all four edges.

When the hot iron part was finished, I readied the curtain rod and clip rings to assemble the curtains.

Voila!

Step 6: Celebrate!
I was so ecstatic on how these curtains turned out that I made mini ones for my windows by my classroom door.  For those ones, I bought magnetic curtain rods to stick to the metal frame.  I seem to over-think many projects that I start for the first time.  It took me about six hours total from starting at the research through shopping and creating until the end, but it would probably take much less time now that you know one of the most simple methods of making D.I.Y. no sew curtains.  Time to make YOUR classroom homey!
